Too cool for school

There are lots of great platformers from the 16-bit era. Cool Spot doesn’t get as much attention as some of its peers, but it certainly deserves some nevertheless! From the minds that would go on to give us games like Aladdin, this is a game with some seriously smooth animation and style.

It’s a little surprising just how much love and attention was given to this game, especially when considering that it is ‘just’ a licensed game. It is undeniable that, from the fantastic controls all the way up to the polished presentation, Cool Spot was one of the most impressive platform games on the 16-bit consoles.

Cool Spot has no right to be as good as it is. It’s a licensed platformer released in the 16-bit era for multiple platforms featuring the mascot for a soft drink brand. And yet… it’s a great game.
